I live on the Central Coast and have chosen to stand as an independent candidate in Terrigal to focus attention on these crucial issues:
- Maternity Choices
- Climate Change
- Ocean Protection
- Youth Futures
I have been actively involved in community campaigns to protect women’s rights during pregnancy and childbirth. Working to ensure women have continuity of care with the care provider of their choice and access to services in pregnancy and childbirth.
I have also been working to protect the local environment through the community campaign to stop the State and Federal Government form dumping an ex-naval warship close to shore at Avoca Beach.
I have run a web development business for 10 years providing services to a range of clients, many of whom are non-profit groups. Projects have included work for youth mentoring groups, indigenous education, sustainable jobs, alternative learning, animal protection, and media skills.
Last year I helped to setup the My Birth website with another Central Coast mum. We recognised a significant gap in the information easily-accessible to pregnant women. The website is an Australian first. It gives women easy access to the statistics of their local birth services, including intervention rates such as induction rates and caesarean section rates – simply by entering their postcode.
I have a Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology/Communications) and a MA in Creative Writing (UTS). I am studying a Masters of Politics and Public Policy at Macquarie University in 2011.
As a mother I have watched with increasing concern at the choices being made by our Governments at all levels on the key issues I am focusing on.
If elected, I will work to ensure that our Government makes decisions that are best for the Central Coast, both now and for the next generation.
